According to Carrella –
“Fungevano da versatoi una maschera comica in
marmo collocata al centro dell’abside, e, stante su di una colonnina del
bacino, un putto in bronzo con oca dal becco del quale usciva l’acqua.”
(trans: “Acting as water-pourers were a marble
comic mask placed in the centre of the apse, and, standing on a column in the
basin, was a bronze Cupid holding a goose, from which the water came out of its
beak.”)

According to Wilhelmina, the figure was seated on a tree stump and from the position of his hand was thought to be holding a fishing rod.
On the tree stump was a mask, which would have been used as a fountain jet, but was not in use.
